Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Claims They Should Face Capital Punishment

Democratic officials expressed fury after former President Donald Trump charged a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be taken into custody and sentenced "by death" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Content That Sparked the Dispute

The video footage, shared on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in military or security roles.

"As we did, you all made an vow to protect and defend this founding document," the lawmakers affirmed in the short video. "At present, the threats to our constitution don't only come from overseas, but from domestically. Our regulations are clear, you can reject improper directives, you can reject improper directives, you must reject illegal orders. No one has to carry out orders that break the legal system or our constitution."

The Former President's Incensed Reaction

The recorded statement reportedly trigger a heated reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On Thursday morning, Trump published on Truth Social: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional publication, he stated: "This constitutes really concerning, and Risky to our Nation. Their comments cannot be permitted to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he added: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also shared a comment that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives Respond

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership released a combined announcement denouncing the comments.

"Political violence has no position in the United States," they declared. "Elected officials who participated in the video all acted our nation with great loyalty and excellence. We clearly denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful calls for execution against congressional representatives, and call on GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in contact with security officials "to guarantee the protection of these representatives and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these unhinged online messages and retract his aggressive language before he causes harm," the declaration continued.

Lawmakers' Strong Answer

The representatives who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We serve as ex-military personnel and security experts who love this nation and took an vow to safeguard and defend the founding document of the United States," they said. "This commitment is permanent, and we plan to keep it. No intimidation, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will stop us from that sacred duty."

"The significant point is that the ex-president considers it punishable by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they stated. "Military personnel should understand that we have their support as they fulfill their oath to the national charter and responsibility to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They added: "All citizens must unite and censure the president's requests for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

Additional Governmental Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's statements and published on online networks: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the death of government members."

He continued: "This represents an direct THREAT. Every Senator, each house member, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this immediately and unconditionally."

The GOP leader justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had been involved in "sedition", labeling the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "It is very harmful, you have leading members of the government telling soldiers to disobey orders, I think that's unprecedented in US history."

The Conservative representative also according to sources stated to the press that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the offense of sedition" but that "legal experts have to parse the language and establish all that."

White House Response

During a White House press conference on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a media member, "Does the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the White House press secretary answered: "No."

"We should understand about what the former president is reacting to," the official stated. "We see active officials of the federal government who coordinated to organize a recorded statement to personnel of the American armed forces, to active duty service members advising them to defy the president's legal commands."

She said: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the hierarchy, and if that system is compromised, it can result in fatalities, it can lead to disorder, and that is exactly what these members of Congress ... are fundamentally promoting."
