Heavy Downpours Exacerbate Circumstances for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza, Officials Alert
Intense rains over the past week have worsened the precarious circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted civilians in the territory, according to aid groups.
"Horrendous" Weather Poses Serious Dangers
A spokesman detailed the recent storm as "horrendous", with rain so severe that up to 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.
"These conditions was exceptionally terrible for the residents. The storms were so intense... And the winds were so strong," said the official.
Officials express extreme concern that children residing in tents in wet clothing will fall victim to hypothermia and additional ailments.
Fatalities and Widespread Loss
The health ministry have confirmed that one baby has passed away from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins due to the harsh conditions.
Further statements indicate a higher death toll. Authorities said that numerous structures had totally fallen and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Aid Efforts Considered Insufficient
Agencies have increased distribution of shelter, warm covers and clothing since the halt in hostilities began, but they have said there is continues to be not enough aid entering.
"Officials are striving constantly to bring in that aid and to allocate it, but the scale of the necessities is so vast that we are faced with a great number of families and minors who are genuinely enduring hardship each evening," cautioned one official.
Long-Term Concerns and Ceasefire Terms
The second phase of the agreement involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of personnel, and other provisions.
Aid bodies have highlighted the need for "increased and sustained aid to respond to urgent and future requirements."
The conflict was triggered by an offensive in October 2023. Later actions have caused a high number of casualties in the area, as per official data.
