Liverpool Refuses to Abandon Attacking Style In the Face of Current Struggles, Says Head Coach Slot

Liverpool's head coach has revealed that the team leadership are aligned with his perspective regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their forward-thinking philosophy in pursuit of a solution. The head coach conceded that six unsuccessful results in seven matches was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Increasing Scrutiny During Challenging Phase

Slot accepted the pressure was on before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or football administration following a substantial investment of almost £450m.

"They say similar things," stated the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the European competition and travel to the Citizens in the English top flight.

Team Strength Remains Unquestioned

The coach is convinced his team "possess an exceptional group if they are completely available and fully prepared for the fixture list". He said that the summer investment in talents including Florian Wirtz and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in such a good place for the short-term future and the years to come".

Team Cohesion Issues

When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he replied: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What are the reasons?' I provide reasons and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can come up with multiple factors why we are underperforming or losing as much as we do but, as I say every time, there are insufficient justifications to have a run of form as we had now."

  • Regardless of whether I could list multiple factors
  • As Liverpool manager you must avoid losses
  • In truth six out of seven

Backline Performance

Only the Lancashire club (twenty-one) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than Liverpool (nineteen). The first-place team, the Gunners, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no reason to compromise forward-thinking approach for a defensive approach after ten fixtures without a shutout.

"In my view we're not allowing many opportunities so I don't see a reason to alter our approach entirely but we must improve in keeping clean sheets," he said.

Recent Examples

"When facing United, how many chances did we concede? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we hardly conceded a effort at our net. In every match we have competed in we haven't allowed a many opportunities. Not at all. We do concede a slightly more than the previous campaign but that has to do with us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But in general I don't feel that our issue is that we give up too many openings. Our problem is we fail to convert the opportunities we generate."
