Suspected Harasser Inquired: 'However Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with pursuing Kate McCann apparently left her a recorded message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the court heard phone records and information retrieved from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most publicized missing child cases and remains unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another voicemail, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and plain like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? Then what? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the recording stated.
The panel was advised that via emails, text messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with family friends of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I plan to establish my position."
The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a visit to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in last December.
Call logs demonstrated Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the time before the visit to the village, that area, in last December.
The court learned message exchanges between the two accused, in last November, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their home, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which said: "We find ourselves positioned near the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark resembling detectives. I had hoped to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
