The network's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
