The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
